Hanmer Springs

One of the highlights of our recent visit to NZ was a trip to Hanmer Springs. We have been to the South Island a number of times and have sailed past the turnoff to Hanmer on our way north. This time we made an overnight trip from Rolleston with Verl to see this spa and skiing resort.
Hanmer is a pretty tourist town that owes its success to the Thermal Springs. The old hospital was established during WW1 to help rehabilitate soldiers with shell-shock. The springs were supposed to have healing powers.
Today the town has other health spas, ski fields during winter, bungy and other thrill attractions. May good eateries and shops are also found. We enjoyed our short stay and will return.
