Overnight was dramatic with Margie losing her passport! Thankfully it was found at our last hotel in Amiens. Getting it back was another thing, but after thoughts of trains and cars back the tour director was able get the owner of our townhouse in Dordogne to accept it being posted. Crisis averted, we were able to enjoy a viewing of the remarkable Bayeux Tapestry in the morning. The boys then visited a well conceived Normandy Invasion museum and the nearby British cemetery, while the girls looked around the town.
After a simple picnic in the grounds of our chateau, we drove out to the invasion beaches. Lots of people enjoying a warm Sunday at Omaha Beach where Tom Hanks landed. The area was also filled with tour buses and bars with names like "D-Day Grill".
We drove back to Arromanches where the British landed and built an artificial harbour (much still there) and enjoyed the holiday atmosphere in a friendly seaside town.
Really enjoying this lifestyle - do we really have to go back to work?
